Recent media coverage (television and local newspaper) has highlighted the increasing number of people who are homeless or at risk of homelessness in our local area (Dapto and its environs). These people have a need which is not currently being substantially met by local charities due to the pandemic.

The Rotary Club of Dapto Homeless Support Project aims to provide people with basic needs such as food and toiletries as well as providing a hot breakfast. The project will be in partnership with the Wollongong Homeless Hub.

The project will involve working with the Wollongong Homeless Hub (WHH) who have identified that there is a significant need in the Dapto area. There has been a marked increase in the number of people seeking assistance from WHH, many of whom are experiencing homelessness issues for the first time and this has been exacerbated by the Covid-19 situation.
The Rotary Club of Dapto will be involved and will work closely with the WHH who will bring an Outreach Van to the Dapto area. The Outreach Van includes support workers from WHH who will counsel clients and provide legal aid advice. The team from RC Dapto will provide a hot breakfast (Covid-19 safe practices in place) as well as assist with distribution of food parcels and toiletries.
