Love Bites; Flying Squad

AN Illawarra Rotary Clubs Initiative
Illawarra Love Bites Flying Squad
Training volunteer facilitators to deliver respectful relationships education in high schools right across the Illawarra.

About the Project
The Illawarra LoveBites Flying Squad is a Illawarra Rotary Clubs Initiative lead by the Rotary Club of Dapto. The project aims to train volunteer facilitators to deliver respectful relationships education in high schools right across the Illawarra. Funded through a $12,000 ClubGRANTS by Dapto Leagues Club, the project brings  the National Association for Prevention of Child abuse and Neglect (NAPCAN's) trauma-responsive Love Bites program to local classrooms — helping young people build the skills to form healthy relationships and recognise the warning signs before harm occurs.

Domestic and family violence remains one of the most serious issues facing our region. Early-intervention education, delivered by trained, caring adults from the community, is one of the most effective ways to break the cycle before it starts.
Why It Matters
Respectful relationships education equips young people with the language, confidence, and awareness to build healthy relationships and to seek help when something isn't right. By training a "flying squad" of facilitators who can be deployed to schools across the region, this project ensures that this critical education isn't limited to one school or one postcode — it reaches the whole Illawarra.
The Training Program
Facilitator training runs over three days, 17–19 November, at Dapto Leagues Club, 9:00am–3:00pm, free to attend. Facilitators are trained in NAPCAN's Love Bites curriculum, learning to lead sensitive conversations with young people on respectful relationships, consent, and recognising warning signs. All materials, resources, and ongoing facilitator support are provided — no prior experience is needed. Register for both course unless you are already qualified in one of the courses.

Delivering Across the Illawarra in 2027
From Term 1, 2027, trained facilitators will form the Illawarra Love Bites Flying Squad, delivering sessions in high schools throughout the school year. Bookings will vary by school and term, so facilitators need to be flexible and available to travel locally as sessions are scheduled. The goal is to reach 500+ students annually across participating Illawarra schools.
Our Partners
This project is delivered in partnership with NAPCAN — providing the Love Bites curriculum and facilitator training — and participating Illawarra high schools.
How You Can Help
Become a facilitator — no experience is needed, just a willingness to make a difference and the flexibility to be part of the ongoing Flying Squad roster in 2027.

Support the project — Illawarra Rotary Clubs and community members can help by spreading the word, nominating potential facilitators, or supporting the project's sustainability beyond the grant period.

Places for the November training are limited — get involved today.
